21 and another jokeament in flames…

Someone sent me this preview for the new movie “21″ (the MIT blackjack geeks who took millions off retarded casino operators) - going by this preview, it looks like it will be a pretty awesome movie. Kevin Spacey probably fagtacular again. And Kate Bosworth is as cute as it gets…

Someone who reminds me (a bit) of Kate Bosworth is little Amanda from PokerNews who runs around everywhere reporting tourneys - she’s cute and tiny and basically awesome. I’m painfully shy so I’ve never said a word to her, but nice work Greenstein Junior….

—————-

I played the PokerPro event today which was a lot of fun. Jennifer Tilly was on my left and we had Gavin Smith on our table also. Gavin Smith is basically awesome and a lot of fun, we got some good prop bets going pretty early. Gavin had about 5k and I gave him even money he couldn’t get to 12k before he busted - we put $500 on it. He got to 11k, then 4k, then folded QQ preflop to me after I limped AA UTG, shortstack raised, Gavin 3bet for 1/3rd his stack and I pushed, and shortstack insta-called. Board came J-T-9-2-8 or something which would have given Gavin the win - we confirmed with the PokerPro designer and he said the RNG presets the entire hand before it deals holecards.

Gavin got his stack up to 12,500 so he won my $500. Then he was out 5 minutes later.

I got moved to a new table with Phil Laak on my right and Kevin O’Donnell to my left so that was about to be pretty fun, except on my 2nd hand, I found JJ with a heap of limpers and I pushed for about 4x pot, repping a move. Kevin O’Donnell, who had some last longer bets going with Laak, tanked and called with 77. Phil is like “omg i love you” to me as I’m about to knock Kevin out basically, but I lost the race when a 7 hit the board. Good game.

The PokerPro tables they have at Crown suck compared to the LightningPoker tables they have in Macau. Basically, if LightingPoker is a Ferrari, PokerPro is a beaten up smelly Datsun. I told the PokerPro guy he needs to copy the software and design used by LightingPoker and he didn’t take it well - he accused me of working for LightningPoker. I accused him of being an idiot. His software sucks ass and LightningPoker will own them. (I hold no interest in either company and dislike all the people involved all equally).

—————

A final shoutout to possibly the most retarded thing I have ever seen someone do at a poker table. I’m chatting to my mate Aleks Lackovic, who opens from CO with KK into Joe Hachem’s big blind. Joe calls. Flop is A-Q-x, Joe checks, Aleks starts talking “oh Joe what are you doing to me, I have KK Joe, omg I can’t believe thi, I’m serious, look I’ll show you” and Aleks Folds and Shows his KK (whilst facing no bet). Aleks somehow thought Joe had bet even though he checked and there was no chips in front of Joe - such is the power of Joe Hachem.

Played the Feature event today where you get 1k if you knock out a bounty player. I got trips against the bounty player first hand but he didn’t have anything and let it go on river. The table was very weak and I played a lot of hands in the first two hours, hitting straights and full houses everywhere but just picking up folds and no chips.

4th level I overlimped with 53s and pushed on a guy who underbet the turn after not c-betting flop. I had pair + OESD. He had AA. Good game. I pick the best spots to run tourney-defining bluffs. Crippled, I got my remaining stack in next hand with A7 and got called by J9. J9 held up. Good game.

I also blushed ginga beetroot red when damn Slippers decided to embarass me in front of everyone, making up a purely fabricated, ridiculous and possibly even slanderous story that I fancied a certain dealer (admittedly extremely cute), and proceeded to have a chat with her whilst pointing at me and laughing. Very unprofessional, that Slippers. Very unprofessional.

Tournaments are brutally retarded, but I’m hoping Julian Powell can take out the Rebuys event this afternoon - he was playing super focused yesterday and I think he’ll be a big favourite on the final table.

I also picked up a piece of Grunter for the Main Event. I’ve backed him only once for $300, which he turned into $40,000 for me, and noobs might look at this as a pretty good record. What separates the noobs from awesomeness is that they are happy with resting on their laurels. Grunter is no noob of course, but I thought it important to keep him on his toes - I told him to ship up or shape out, that he hadn’t delivered me results in weeks, that this was almost certainly his last chance to impress me with his results and that, while I’m a patient man, I do not tolerate failure. I think he appreciated the pep talk. You’ll see a fired up APPT champion hit the ground running in the Main Event, and I apologise to everyone he knocks out on his way to the title for my awesomeness.

Final shout-out to Eric Blessadourian, who is awesome but finished as bubble-boy last night in the Rebuys. I love playing with Eric and I think he is the best live game trash talker I have seen (possible exception TonyG), but I gleefully enjoyed telling anyone who’d listen today that Eric finished on the bubble last night after the cheeky genius didn’t try to push me off Jacks and double me up the night before. As he folded to my c-bet on K-x-x flop, he said “I think you have Jacks, but I’m not sure you’re smart enough to fold to a push”. Sick genius that Blessadourian. Sick genius. I would not have been smart enough to fold, and I would have MILLIONS of chips now if he check-pushed.

Millions Rebuy Event and a war is coming…

“To all you colour blind folk,
The freckles don’t lie,
You gotta catch that ginga,
Look him in the eye.”

I played the 1k rebuy event today and wanted to do very well without rebuying too much. I doubled up quickly with KT on KTx flop vs QJ that missed, then doubled up again with QQ vs JJ. AQ vs AJ put me even more ahead, and I finished the rebuy period as chip-leader on my table without rebuying once or adding on. Some people were in for 10k on my table so I felt pretty good and lucky.

Shaniac, who is a stone cold pro, got moved to my right and proceeded to raise a lot. I 3bet him light once and picked up his raise but apart from that, I was pretty weak against him. He squeezed with QJo and got eliminated before too long. Jovan Skekic, who I think is a pretty good player, opened his button and I 3bet from SB with A4s - he tanked and pushed with 77 and I won which was nice. I limped KK UTG and found QQ who called and doubled me up.

With about 10 to the money, I was double average and looking pretty good on my table. But, as always, I got moved when I least wanted to be moved and found myself at a new table with Eric Blessadourian, Julian Powell, Anna Wroblewski and a bunch of other guys.

I made a pretty big mistake as I’m not used to using live chips - I tried to count out an 8k 3bet with AKo and accidentally minraised an LP opener fish. He called, flop was Th-9h-x and I c-bet as I was flustered at the accidental minraise. He pushed and I folded, now on serious tilt but still with about 15k left. I got my stack in when I limped AQo UTG and a 15k shortstack pushed with A3o. He won the race and I was crippled, I was eliminated with QQ vs Julian’s AKo with about 5 spots or something to the money. Another tourney in flames - ridiculous.

I then progressed to the Rhino where Potter was celebrating his 2nd place in the Limit event. I did many “rebuys” before Arul, Emad and Jethro showed up with an excellent ginga pet in tow named Wes.

It quickly became apparent that a war was brewing between gingas and humans and I was determined to find out which side everyone was on. I established a War Council and we set out to rid our ranks of Ginga Spies.

Wes was a powerful Ginga and a worthy opponent, and it quickly became obvious that whilst people get emotional about Global Warming and Terrorism and the Price of Petrol, the real threat was right under our noses - Gingas were taking our women.

We tried to defend our women against the power and charm of Ginga Wes but he became hot-headed and agitated. We discovered he calmed down when we patted him and spoke soothing phrases and gave him salt licks - “easy boy good ginga settle ginga good boy”.

Some of us in the War Council were talking Ginga Genocide but I thought we were better off harnessing the power of the gingas and making gingas fight each other rather than let them unite their forces against us. Jethro developed inspiration from our Manila horse-fighting taxi driver, and we came up with a plan to put a human woman in the middle of two gingas, get them excited, and let them fight for our amusement. Wes was keen to be involved.

We need to face the fact that Gingas Are Amoungst Us. We can pretend they don’t exist but they are there. I told Wes to take me to his Ginga Leader but he became agitated, so I had to settle him down so that he did not scare the women-folk. Speaking of the women, they were largely oblivious to the Ginga Threat and seemed prepared to dance for the ginga, and even (shock, horror) breed with him. Sigh. I tried to explain to the women that the Gingas would simply put them in camps as Comfort Women when the Battle Between Humans and Gingas occurred. They did not heed my warnings and continued to entice Wes with their shaking hips and promises of pleasure, and our pet little ginga became agitated, excited and dangerous.

I left before he went out of control as my fellow humans were not fully aware of the danger associated with gingas like Wes. For all I know, he is ripping them apart as I write this…I would help but I am a coward and I also have to regroup and sober up and play the Bounty Feature Event tomorrow….

T6 poker - new room enters the market…

I’ve just entered into a deal with a new online poker room, T6 Poker, to play as one of their pros and build interest in the site - I desperately hope this site is a success, as they have only pure 6max and HU games, which is fantastic and the future of online poker. 6max is the new Full Ring and it makes me cry when I see my target players sitting in full ring games instead of my 6max games on other sites.

There has been some online discussion about T6 which is not all favourable, but I think T6 Poker is a serious room making a serious effort to compete in the competitive online market. In my interaction with T6 Poker owner Torben Hubertz and his team, I have found them intelligent, serious and professional. They take all suggestions on board and they are improving and updating the site multiple times a day - I think they are extremely serious about creating a high-quality short-handed online poker room.

They’ve also signed a number of high-quality players including TonyG to promote their site and I hope they take the online world by storm.

I’ve been playing quite a bit on T6 Poker over the last few days and the games are pretty awesome. They are a brand new site (only launched a few days ago) so player base is being built, but when games get up, they are basically fantastic and full of Alicia Silverstones.

Some hands I’ve played at 5/10nl in last few days:

I raise pot on turn in raised pot and player calls $300 OOP with gutshot after donking out on flop and turn.

Player calls 4bet OOP for 70% of his stack with Q9o.

Player raises KJo HU and calls overpot 3bet when I have AA. He calls A-Q-x flop with gutshot and no flush draw. Turn K is check/check. River Q, I lead for close to pot, betting about 60% of my stack and he pushes all-in with his KJ - wonderful. How good is his river push with no FE? What’s he hoping to get called by? I haven’t seen stuff like this at 5/10nl in over a year online…

——-

They are also running big tournaments every day with massive overlays - some of the biggest overlays you’ll ever see, 400%, 600%, etc.

You’ll see me playing on T6 Poker under the username “JonnyVincent” - stop by and have a chat if you see me sitting on the table or heckle my bad plays (I’m helpless without all my geeky HUD stats)….

I mostly just wanted an excuse to post this picture of the adorable Miranda Kerr.

While I’m here though, I’ll give you a quick update on my RakebackSTAT staked player. He’s been a lazy little shit over the holidays but, apart from that, he’s doing pretty well.

So far, he’s done 6400 hands for $4800 profit at something over 9bb/100 - so a pretty good start. Hopefully he can keep it up - go horsie gogogogo….

obama awesomeness…

January 5th, 2008

I went to sleep last night hoping Obama would do well in the Iowa caucus but I never dreamed he would crush Hilary and Edwards - its magnificent. I don’t strongly dislike Hilary and I think she would probably do a “professional” job as President (following Bush would be like walking onto the stage after Carrot Top - you could say just about anything and people would think you’re funny) - but Obama is inspiring and special and his time has come. America needs him desperately and the World needs him desperately. Obama can and will change the world if he is nominated and elected, and this year’s presidential race has the genuine potential to be the most important one of our lifetime.

He also happens to be insanely intelligent and, thankfully, has brilliant scriptwriters working for him (who use excellent MLK quotes like “…the fierce urgency of now.”) - I’m almost certain the only things standing in his way are ugly, ugly things like racism and stupidity and the religious right.

This is a pretty special speech he gave in Iowa that everyone is raving about (it’s about 20min long and is basically brilliant the whole way through, but he kicks it up a gear about the 13:30 mark and the last couple minutes are so good its scary):

Never before have I seen a politician who is this brilliant and has such perfectly correct positions on almost every important issue.

This party, the party of Jefferson and Jackson, of Roosevelt and Kennedy, has always made the biggest difference in the lives of the American people when we led, not by polls, but by principle; not by calculation, but by conviction; when we summoned the entire nation to a common purpose - a higher purpose.

I am in this race to tell the corporate lobbyists that their days of setting the agenda in Washington are over. I have done more than any other candidate in this race to take on the lobbyists and I have won. They have not funded my campaign, they will not work in my White House, and they will not drown out the voices of the American people when I am President.

As President, I will end the war in Iraq. We will have our troops home in sixteen months. I will close Guantanamo. I will restore habeas corpus. I will finish the fight against Al Qaeda. And I will lead the world to combat the common threats of the 21st century- nuclear weapons and terrorism; climate change and poverty; genocide and disease. And I will send once more a message to those yearning faces beyond our shores that says, “You matter to us. Your future is our future. And our moment is now.”

If Obama doesn’t crash into the White House on the back of a huge upswell of support this year, it will be a devastating tragedy not just for the US, but for the entire world….
